If a Tree Falls: The Mozambican Forest at Risk is a documentary film produced by Mike Goldwater and directed by Mike Goldwater and Sam Goldwater. The project was commissioned by IIED - the International Institute for Environment and Development in 2010. It functions as part of IIED's research initiative, determining the validity and application of the UN's REDD strategy. The documentary was shot over 17 days in the Northern Mozambican province of Nampula. The film examines various threats to the forests here, including local charcoal production and international commercial logging operations. All material was shot on Canon bodies - 550D and 5D on Canon L zooms and Nikkor and Pentax primes. Sound was recorded on a Sony MD50/Rode shotgun mic and an H4n on internal mic. Other equipment used was a wireless mic trans/reciever Sennheiser EW-100, Glidetrack 2ft slide, Adorama shoulder support, Hague camframe and Gitzo tripod/head.
